Lenten devotionals: day 16

A slight detour.

In order to be able to focus attention on the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ during Easter week today progress to

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

There are many discussions around the Holy Spirit as part of the God head and Trinity. First let us return to the beginning and be introduced to the Spirit of God as mentioned in Genesis.

Genesis 1-2 New International Version (NIV)

The Beginning

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

To try and understand the greatness here described approach with still minds, and listen internally for the voice of God. He longs for us to fathom the depth of beauty and wonder revealed in this opening communication.

God, the three-in-one, creates. In order to create life He first needs to create a home. Life needs water, it forms with dimension occupying space. God in spirit form nestles over this life stirring up a current of movement, breath, an idea.

For this idea to form, the third member of the God head commands, vocalises the idea. And God said:

Much later, John informs us that this word was Jesus.

John 1 New International Version (NIV)

The Word Became Flesh

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

Now we have a bigger picture. God, three purposes and forms, work together to create a world, a place, a home for His people.

In eternal gratitude, this people honour Him, God head, Trinity by affirming I believe, in God, father, in God, saviour and in God, breath, movement, essence of all He is.

For further reflection and praise read aloud

Psalm 104

Lord creator we praise you.

Lord and saviour we thank you.

Lord and Spirit we welcome you.
